Sun Lab

Andrew is a PhD student in Biological Engineering at MIT interested in combining computational and experimental approaches to study aging across biological scales, from single cells to whole organisms. He grew up in the northern Chicago suburbs and obtained B.S. degrees in Bioengineering and Chemistry, with a minor in Psychology, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As an undergraduate, he worked in the Li Lab studying developmental neurobiology in Drosophila, with a focus on the optic lobe. He also spent a summer at the Mayo Clinic in the Kannan Lab, where he applied single-cell sequencing and computational analysis to characterize bioengineered murine submandibular gland cultures aimed at restoring radiation-induced xerostomia. Outside the lab, Andrew enjoys experimenting in the kitchen and playing squash. He is the assistant coach for MIT’s varsity squash team and works part-time as a squash instructor with DAPER during the off-season.
